Brush with success

Sophie WaltersSophie Walters, the runner-up of Dulux Decorator Centre’s esteemed Student Decorator of the Year competition 2015, is continuing her brush with success following her recent appointment at the Beckenham store.

Sophie, 20, won the North West Kent heat in the professional painting and decorating competition, before being named runner-up at the grand final. The Dartford student went head to head with ten other competitors in the final, putting her practical skills, such as wallpapering, sign writing and cutting-in to the test.

The well-known industry competition has been a favourite with students and apprentices for eight years running and looks at competitors’ attention to detail and brushwork. The 2015 grand final, held in Edinburgh, was judged by three leading industry experts and a Dulux Select Decorator.

After graduating from North West Kent College with a diploma in painting and decorating, Sophie has since been hired as a full-time sales assistant at the Dulux Decorator Centre in Beckenham.

Ashley Eyers, store manager at Dulux Decorator Centre in Beckenham, comments: “We’re really proud to see a recognisable face now working at the Beckenham store. Coming second in the prestigious Student Decorator of the Year competition is a great achievement, and it’s fantastic news that Sophie is bringing a high level of competence and professionalism to the store.

“Sophie is an excellent fit for Dulux Decorator Centre – her product knowledge is through the roof and we’re really happy to have her on board.”
