City Farm Bags Johnstones £10K Prize

Kentish Town City Farm in London has been named as the winner of the Johnstone’s Trade Community Makeover competition, following a nationwide public vote. The farm will now receive a £10,000 redecoration makeover.

The community charity works to help people connect with animals, nature and environment by providing an extensive programme of activities. Among these are horse riding and equine care programmes and a young farmer scheme, as well as structured groups and activities for people with disabilities and disadvantaged children.

The Community Makeover competition was launched in November 2016 and saw a wide array of charities and community projects from right across the country nominated for the chance to win the £10,000 paint redecoration.

From the list of deserving causes, Johnstone’s Trade then complied a shortlist of four finalists. The shortlist was then put to a public vote, where Kentish Town City Farm won above the other projects.

Richard Mazurkiewicz, Marketing Manager at Johnstone’s Trade, commented: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the calibre of entries in this year’s competition, and picking four finalists wasn’t an easy job.

“The winner, Kentish Town City Farm, does an incredible job in providing a range of facilities and activities for residents in its local area. We’re proud to support such a worthy cause and we’re excited to see the results of the makeover – watch this space!”

Gus Alston, Director at Kentish Town City Farm, commented: “We’re are extremely happy to have been named as the winner of the competition. We were up against some fantastic projects, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who showed their support and voted for us.

“Our building has not been professionally decorated for more than ten years, and has started to look quite sad and tired. Our staff have worked incredibly hard with little or no resource in this time, so the makeover really will give the whole team a boost “ .

The Community Makeover competition is now in its third year and has helped previous winners, Rotherham Rise and MK Snap, to transform their facilities with a paint redecoration makeover.
