Partnership offers Tradespeople mental health support

Find-a-tradesperson service MyBuilder has partnered with Mates in Mind, the mental health charity for the UK construction sector, to offer free advice and support sessions for its tradespeople amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

MyBuilder.com, which matches homeowners with available tradespeople, joined forces with Mates in Mind to offer mental health support to its professional tradespeople and support the charity’s mission of improving mental health in the construction sector.

The first wave of free online support sessions start this week, with more in the pipeline.

The sessions with an experienced mental health expert offer MyBuilder-registered tradespeople the opportunity to explore how the current environment impacts their wellbeing and how to spot issues in themselves and colleagues.

Participants will learn how to develop successful coping mechanisms and support colleagues as well as details of relevant professional support services available. Following the sessions, there will be the opportunity to become part of the Mates in Mind community and receive ongoing access to a range of services and resources.

A survey by MyBuilder last year found that even before the stresses of coronavirus, 89% of tradespeople said they were stressed and 53% believed that mental health was an issue in building and the trades.

James Rudoni, CEO, Mates in Mind, comments: “The importance of mental health awareness cannot be underestimated, especially in the current climate as we all navigate the effects of COVID-19 and the changes it is bringing to each of our lives”.
