Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year Passing New Skills On

A talented professional painter who twice won Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year Award as a trainee is now using his skills to train other young painters and decorators who aspire to make it in the industry.

Craig Martin, 26, works as a painter and decorator for property maintenance and refurbishment specialist Novus Property Solutions, and consecutively won the prestigious award in 2008 and 2009.

Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year Passing New Skills OnWhile completing his painting and decorating course at Stoke-on-Trent College, Craig was twice entered into the competition held at the National Painting and Decorating Show in Coventry, demonstrating his skills and gaining vital experience for the future.

After adding two Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year Awards to his CV, along with his qualifications and work experience, Craig secured a full time job with Stoke-based Novus. After perfecting his trade, he is now passing on his painting and decorating skills to the company’s new apprentices.

Craig said: “The awards gave my CV an incredible boost and have definitely helped me to get where I am today. I would encourage any young painter to enter the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition to demonstrate their skills and boost their experience. The competition definitely gives young people a head start in the trade and it’s great that I am able to pass on my skills to apprentices at Novus. I was in their shoes a few years ago so I’ve gone full circle!”

The competition celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, with the grand final taking place at the National Painting and Decorating Show on 18th and 19th November.
