Industry winners in the spotlight

The 31st annual Premier Trophy Awards, hosted by the Painting and Decorating Association took place recently The Plaisterers’ Hall, London.

Dulux Trade was the main sponsor of this year’s event and guest speaker, Alistair McAuley – AkzoNobel’s Managing Director for UK and Ireland – launched the awards, encouraging businesses to look at the future and image of the industry.

Hosted by Neil Ogilvie PDA Chief Executive, the awards ceremony began with thePDA Apprentice/Trainee of the Year accolade, sponsored by CITB, Purdy and Dulux Trade.

Lewis Boyle, of Bagnalls, and Abi Johnson, of Bradford Council – who are both students at Leeds College of Building – took first and second place, whilst Megan Talbot, employee of Oliver Gladwin and a student at Accrington and Rossendale College, finished third.

Each received goods to the value of £500, £200 and £100 respectively from Purdy, as well as Dulux Trade gifts.

This year the event attracted 83 entries across seven different categories, including Commercial, Industrial, Decorative, Highly Decorative, Small Contractor, New Build and Residential.

List of winners:

  • UK Decs Ltd was named the Supreme Winner award
  • Lewis Boyle, of Bagnalls, and Abi Johnson, of Bradford Council – who are both students at Leeds College of Building – took first and second place, whilst Megan Talbot, employee of Oliver Gladwin and a student at Accrington and Rossendale College, finished third.
  • Commercial Category was won by,UK Decs Ltd for their extensive decoration work at Mayflower Theatre
  • Jack Tighe Ltd was named the winner of the Industrial category for their project on Ameg Phase 4 for British Steel in Scunthorpe
  • Ian Williams Ltd won with the Decorative accolade for the work carried out at the Provincial Grand Lodge, Freemasons Hall, Bristol.
  • The Highly Decorative title was awarded to Axis Europe Plc, who carried out a full redecoration of the main function hall at the Painter-Stainers’ Hall, London.
  • Small Contractor of the Year title was given to Neil Bailey Decorating, who transformed Wheatley Bridge Farm in Oxfordshire.
  • Ambrose Ellis Painting Contractors Ltd won New Build Project of the Year for their work at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.
  • The Residential award was given to Cousins Group for the major works undertaken for Signature Senior Living at their new development in Reigate.
