St. Peter’s Court – in the coastal town of Lowestoft, Suffolk – was in need of re-decoration and Waveney District Council wanted a product that would last for the long-term.
As a result, 3,600 litres of Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint were specified for the 15-storey building.
Graham Turner, Projects Officer at Waveney District Council, said: “This is the most easterly tower block in the UK and is open to all of the natural elements.
“We wanted a product that could cope with the coastal environment and because it was such a large scale project we wanted to make sure that it would last up to 15 years. That’s why we chose Sandtex Trade 365.”
The CLC Group carried out the work at the site, which took place over an eight-week period.
They used innovative mast climbers, which enabled them to elevate up and down the building.
Ray Willoughby, Contract Supervisor at the CLC Group, said: “We applied the paint by brush and roller and the product went on really well.
“Even on the days when we experienced high winds and dampness, it had no effect on the application or finish.”
Decorators merchants Brewers, who supplied all the paint for the project, developed a strategy to cope with the large volumes required.
Ed Pearce, Area Manager at Brewers, said: “A big part of the project was communication. We’ve been heavily involved with the tenants throughout to reassure them.
“We brought the paint to the site daily because a store doesn’t have the capability of holding such a high degree of product and we would take the empty tins away for recycling.”
Sandtex Trade 365 offers 15 years’ durability providing a long-lasting finish which has been independently certified by the British Board of Agrément.
It is formulated for use in adverse weather condition and contains high performance Pliolite® Resin to combat the effects of difficult weather conditions.
The product can be applied at temperatures as low as -10ºC and is being rain-resistant in 20 minutes.
