“It was the fantastic parade of new beach huts on Bournemouth’s seafront, all beautifully decorated in different colours of Sadolin Superdec, that really clinched our decision to form the Laughing Donkey Beach Hut Company”, said Fran Christie, joint owner of a newly established business, manufacturing luxurious timber huts for the leisure and ‘glamping’ sectors.
Determined to start their own hand crafted hut business on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales, Fran and her sister Anne spent many months researching timber building styles that could serve different purposes and that would really capture the public’s imagination.
“We were seriously considering shepherds’ huts until we saw the Sadolin colour card with its photos of Bournemouth’s panoramic parade of beach huts, decked out in a fabulous range of colours. This project really gave us the inspiration we needed!”
Fran and Anne sought advice on decorative and protective finishes from Rabart Decorators Merchants Ltd in Swansea where Branch Manager John Bagley and sales assistant Jackie Cole were able to introduce them to a brand new Sadolin Superdec Beach Hut Colour Collection, based on the very project that had inspired them.
The new collection contains all 75 of the bright and contemporary wood protection shades devised by the Crown Paints Colour Service for Bournemouth’s high profile and much photographed ‘Sunrise to Sunset’ beach hut development.
“The beach huts looked superb and there were colours to suit every possible taste and preference,” said Fran. “It was great news as we immediately realised that Sadolin was presenting us with a stunning, readily available colour palette that we, in turn, could offer to our customers.
For the interior wooden floors and external decking Sadolin Classic woodstain has been used in Antique Pine.
For the interior ‘tongue and groove’ walls, Crown Trade Acrylic Eggshell in Brilliant White delivered the durable washable finish they were looking for, together with the added benefits of a fast-drying and virtually odour free formulation.
Having developed and perfected our prototype, we’re putting all our energies into promoting and running the Laughing Donkey Beach Hut Company from now on,” said Fran.
