GETTING TOUGH WITH VALSPAR
Extending maintenance schedules was a key consideration for RCB Healthcare across their seven care home locations, minimising disruption and ensuring the high-quality and homely environment was maintained for residents and their families. Tough Matt Emulsion from Valspar Trade was selected to be used as it met these demanding criteria .
Family run since 2012, RCB Healthcare offers dementia, nursing, respite and residential care in seven locations across Kent, with a clear focus on delivering compassion, kindness and a community feel. Overseeing the management of six of the sites, RCB Healthcare’s maintenance team, headed up by Mark Osborne, is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents, their families and staff.
Speaking about the role, Mark said: “Given the sector, ensuring the home interior spaces are kept in a clean and well cared for condition certainly isn’t without its challenges – especially when you consider the wall finishes within high traffic areas. On a weekly basis, there can be various accidents, scuffs and spillages. This often results in us having to do regular touch-ups or even having to repair and repaint entire walls. Not only is this time consuming, pulling my hard-working team of six away from other jobs, but it can also cause disruption to residents – something that we endeavour to avoid.
“It was here that I started speaking with Valspar Trade. We tried a sample of their Tough Matt emulsion and really liked it.”
Precise colour Match
Rob Glass, Trade Sales Specialist – South East at Valspar Trade, said: “I worked closely with Mark, ensuring that we achieved a precise colour match in line with the care group’s existing colour portfolio. This was an essential part of the brief, in order to allow his team to do simple touch-ups and ensure true colour coordination with the existing surface.

Standing up to the test
Considering the care sector, it wasn’t just colour that the paint needed to deliver on, with durability essential too. Mark commented: “We’ve now switched to using Valspar Trade’s Tough Matt throughout all our care home interiors and it’s certainly been standing up to the test. It’s scrubbable and stain resistant, meaning we can easily clean the majority of marks off the walls without having to arrange a repaint. Our teams carry out room checks on a weekly basis to ensure we are on top of all maintenance requirements. Previously, these reports would come back with various snags to rectify, but now this is a rare occurrence.
“My site teams really like using Tough Matt, praising its ease of application and good coverage. The support from the wider Valspar Trade team, including Rob, has also been excellent. Rob regularly comes down for site visits and I know he is always just a phone call away.”
