DIY SOS NEEDS YOU! – North Tyneside
BBC One’s DIY SOS is coming to do a big build in WALLSEND, NORTH TYNESIDE.
Trades Day: 20th June 2023
Build Dates: 5th- 11th July 2023
Your kind volunteering will help transform a derelict building into a fully-inclusive performing arts school, teaching dance and theatre skills to 500 children and young adults weekly, many of whom have additional learning needs.
Alisar-Jane created the group after two life-changing events: as an adult, Ali was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, leading her to reflect on a difficult childhood where she struggled to belong – it was her love of dancing that helped her through. And when Ali’s niece, Emily-Kate, was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition as a toddler, Ali was desperate to take her to dance classes but found a lack of fun and
accessible groups. So, ‘True Colours’ was born. The charity has been given the keys to a run-down building in a dire state – currently, there is no electricity, heating, natural light or disabled access and they have limited funds in order to renovate it.
DIY SOS need help from tradespeople and suppliers by donating skills and materials. They offer an experience of a lifetime, delicious hot meals and the joy of volunteering.
