Are you 2014’s Ultimate Decorator ?

Following the success of last year’s annual Dulux Trade competition to celebrate painters and decorators who excel, the search is now on to find the UK’s Ultimate Professional Decorator for 2014.

In order to ensure the winner really is the Ultimate Professional, Dulux Trade asked 3,000 homeowners and 300 decorators which qualities they think make up the perfect professional decorator, and the results will form the basis for the judging criteria.

Following survey revealed that the top ten qualities householders look for in their perfect professional decorator are:
1. Trust
2. Feeling comfortable with them in their home
3. Respect for their house and property
4. Attention to detail
5. Sticking to the original quote
6. Cost
7. Quality of work
8. Returning my calls
9. Punctuality
10. Tidiness

Decorator David Robinson, who won last year’s competition, said: “It’s a great idea from Dulux Trade to carry out this survey, as it gives homeowners the chance to tell us exactly what they are looking for when hiring a decorator. It’s not surprising when you have a stranger coming into your home that trust and reassurance are key and rank high amongst homeowners.

In addition to the Ultimate Professional Decorator Award, the competition will also feature a category to find the UK’s Ultimate Professional Painting Contractor.

A panel of industry experts will select the shortlisted finalists in October, before revealing the Ultimate Professional Decorator and Ultimate Professional Painting Contractors for 2014 at an awards dinner in November.

The overall winners will not only walk away with the national accolade, which has made such a difference to previous winners – their hard work will also be rewarded with the Ultimate Prize – either a relaxing luxury spa experience or VIP tickets to a sporting event.

The competition closes for entries 4 October.
