Cousins Ltd scoops top accolade at PDA’s Premier Trophy Awards
Cousin’s Ltd has been named Supreme Winner at the annual Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) Premier Trophy Awards.
Based in Lambeth, London, Cousin’s Ltd were recognised for the revamp of The Whiteley London, which initially won the Decorative category and went on to secure the Supreme Winner title.
The prestigious ceremony followed presentations to winners of the PDA’s Apprentice of the Year competition and a three-course lunch at the historic Plaisterers’ Hall, London Wall.
Simon Brewer, Chief Executive Officer at award-sponsor Brewers Decorator Centres, gave a speech at the ceremony, as well as presenting the awards alongside Scott O’Connell, President of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) and PDA Chief Executive Neil Ogilvie, who also hosted the event.
An annual celebration of the highest standards of excellence in the craft, the Premier Trophy Awards sees accolades presented to winners of seven categories: Decorative, Highly Decorative, Small Contractor, New Build, Residential, Commercial and Industrial, with one selected as the Supreme Winner.
The Supreme Winner project at The Whiteley London involved a complete redecoration by Cousin’s Ltd, following the conversion of a former department store into a five-star hotel, including redecoration of an ornate wrought iron balustrade on the central staircase.
The company also won the New Build category for its work at The Beach Royal Bournemouth Hospital and was commended in the same category for a project at Pinn River SEND School, Pinner.

Independent judges from the ICWCI assessed 103 entries and visited 53 shortlisted projects, including bridges, theatres, football grounds, libraries and palaces across the country as part of the selection process.
Neil Ogilvie said: “The Premier Trophy Awards fly the flag for excellence in painting and decorating and are a testament to the high level of skill, professionalism and dedication in the sector.
“To secure a commendation, win two categories and then be named overall Supreme Winner is a spectacular achievement for Cousin’s Ltd and we offer them, and all the category winners and commended projects, our sincere congratulations on their success.
“Our congratulations also to the winners of our Apprentice of the Year competition, who have battled through regional heats and a Grand Final for the chance to come to this event and find out who will take home the title Apprentice of the Year.”
