Dulux reveals its colour of 2027
Dulux has named Soulful Sage its Colour of the Year 2027, giving decorators a practical starting point for colour conversations. The soft, silvery green and its three complementary palettes can help professionals tackle common colour questions, from which shades work well together to pairings that will suit the use and mood of the space.
For decorators, great service often goes beyond achieving a high-quality finish. Customers may also look to them for guidance when they are struggling to narrow down options or turn an idea into a workable colour scheme. Soulful Sage™ and its supporting palettes provide a simple framework to help decorators guide those conversations while keeping the final choice with the customer.
The Dulux Colour of the Year 2027, Soulful Sage, was chosen through AkzoNobel’s annual ColourFutures trend forecast which brings together international colour experts to identify the shades people are likely to want in their homes. For 2027, the research pointed towards lighter, more uplifting environments, resulting in a versatile green that can be used as the starting point for calm, warming or uplifting schemes depending on the customer’s brief.
To make Soulful Sage straightforward to use on real jobs, Dulux has created three complementary palettes that provide a ready-made set of colour combinations. Decorators can use these to narrow down options with customers according to the room and the atmosphere they want to achieve.
- Glow Colours – Warm reds and earthy browns combine with Soulful Sage™ to create a comfortable, welcoming scheme. Ideal for living rooms, dining rooms and other spaces where customers want a warm, familiar feel.
- Light Colours – Soft browns, blues and cleansing neutrals sit alongside Soulful Sage™ for a calmer, visually uncluttered scheme. Well suited to bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices to create a quieter atmosphere.
- Lift Colours – Yellows, pinks and greens pair with Soulful Sage™ to create a brighter, more energetic scheme. A good fit for kitchens, playrooms and other spaces that call for more personality and uplift.
Nicola Holmes, Dulux Academy Colour Expert at AkzoNobel, said: “When a customer isn’t sure where to start with colour, decorators can use the Colour of the Year 2027 palettes to help steer the conversation. A good place to start is by asking how the room is used and how the customer wants it to feel. From there, the Glow, Light and Lift palettes can help narrow down the options before moving on to individual shades.
“For example, if the living room is their space to wind down at the end of the day, the Glow palette can help to create a cosy and warming colour scheme. Alternatively, if the bathroom is their place to get up and go in the morning, Lift colours can be used to create a more energetic feel.
