Dulux Select Decorator Georgie nails it!

The winners of this year’s On the Tools Awards were announced at a ceremony on 18th November, with Georgie Baker, of Baker’s Property Maintenance, taking home Painter/Decorator of the Year.

The award, sponsored by Armstead, celebrates some of the best talent in the UK painting and decorating industry.

This year’s award recognises Georgie’s hard work in the face of numerous challenges over the last two years, with painters and decorators forced to quickly adapt to new ways of working in line with government restrictions, and handle unprecedented demand for their services as premises re-opened and homeowners looked to update and renovate.

Georgie Baker explained how much the award meant to him: “I’m absolutely elated, I honestly cannot believe it. I’m very grateful…for me, it’s been an amazing couple of years for professional and personal growth.”

Georgie went on to explain how beneficial being part of the Dulux Select Decorator programme – an accreditation given to the best decorators across the country after rigorous assessment – has been: “The programme continues to help me become a better decorator and puts me in a fantastic position where I can offer that same guidance and advice to other decorators coming up the ranks. I want to give a big shout out to the platform itself. Dulux Select Decorators has laid the foundation for me to do some incredible projects, and work with some amazing and very talented people.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the years and those who continue to support me. I’m ever so thankful. Hopefully 2023 will be another blinding year!”

Georgie was up against stiff competition, with Dulux Select Decorator Ashely Woodcock (A Woodcock Decorators) also nominated, alongside James Reeve (Royal Spa Decoration LTD), Jennifer Gardner (Jennifer Gardner Interiors) and Joanne Hay (Joanne Hay Painting & Decorating).

Vickie Mather, Dulux Academy and Dulux Select Decorators Lead at AkzoNobel, was on the judging panel and accepted the award on his behalf while Georgie was on holiday. She says: “Georgie is such a deserving winner – his commitment to the trade and the professionalism and pride with which he approaches all his projects, is something every decorator should aspire to. On behalf of Armstead and the wider AkzoNobel team, I’m so pleased to have been able to award him with this title and am delighted for the other nominees who should also be incredibly proud of themselves.”
