Rail strike could lead to road gridlock for contractors

Working contractors are being advised to ‘stay local’, avoiding possible huge delays on the roads following a decision by the RMT Union to take strike action across the UK Rail network.

National Rail strikes will take place on 21st, 23rd and 25th June but the effect will disrupt the entire week, including the 22nd, 24th and 26th June, according to transport organisations.

As millions of people who normally use the rail network take to the roads, extra traffic during the industrial action is likely to be nationwide, particularly in and around the major cities, such as London, Manchester, Leeds, and Birmingham.

Motoring organisations are advising that all drivers keep journeys to a minimum, plan ahead and ensure that their vehicles have had basic checks such as oil, water, and tyres and of course ensuring that they have enough fuel for their journey.
