The Best UK Cities To Be A Painter And Decorator

The best and worst cities for painters and decorators to work in the United Kingdom have been highlighted in a new survey.

Workwear specialists MI Supplies analysed the yearly pay for painters and decorators in every city in the UK. Their research shows which cities you can earn the most and least money from working in if you are in the painting and decorating trade.

They discovered that Bradford is the best city in the UK for painters and decorators to make a living. The average pay for those working in Bradford is £24,040. London comes is in second place with an average £23,889 per annum wage.

Painters and decorators working in Cambridge and Newport, meanwhile, have the lowest yearly salaries. They both came at the bottom of the list with £19,434 the average wage for Cambridge painters and decorators, and £19,602 for those in Newport.

The average wages for painters and decorators have increased by 8% since 2013. There is also a £4,606 difference between the average pay for painters and decorators working in Bradford compared to the lowest earning UK city Cambridge.

The five best places to make a living in the United Kingdom as a painter and decorator are:

  1. Bradford – £24,040
  2. London – £23,889
  3. Gloucester – £23,640
  4. Salisbury – £21,320
  5. Aberdeen – £21,190

Meanwhile, the five worst are:

  1. Cambridge – £19,434
  2. Newport – £19,602
  3. Leeds – £19,608
  4. Leicester – £19,636
  5. Derby – £19,995

MI Supplies analysed the yearly salaries for painters and decorators with at least five years of experience across all 69 cities in the UK.
