PDA Backs Jobs Campaign at National Apprenticeship Week
School leavers were given the chance to get a real insight into a career in painting and decorating at a recent event celebrating National Apprenticeship Week.
Bagnalls Training Academy in Doncaster opened its doors to students from across the region to show them what opportunities the industry offers, at an event organised in partnership with CITB.
The young visitors were able to speak to Bagnalls training team, as well as current apprentices working for the company.
Neil Ogilvie, Chief Executive of the PDA also joined the event, to give the guests an industry perspective on training opportunities.
Neil Ogilvie said: “Students went away from the workshop having gained hands on experience and a wealth of knowledge about the next steps they would need to take to apply for an apprenticeship.
“Events such as this showcase how painting and decorating apprenticeships offer a great career opportunity.
“Students gain a professional craft that no machine can replace. These young people are the decorators of the future.”
David Sunderland, Group Technical and Training Manager at Bagnalls, said: “It was a really good day and the students who came along were very enthusiastic.
“We had several of our apprentices on hand at the event and they demonstrated the skills they have learnt so far, through college training and site based working.
“The students were also able to ask our apprentices all about the industry too.
“Apprentice development is one of the company’s core values and ensures that we have skilled people to meet the needs of our wide range of customers, so this was a really important event for us.”
Pam Lee, Construction Careers Adviser at CITB, added: “The construction industry is experiencing a real resurgence.
“We hope that the students who attended the event will want to be part of that.”
