Colour leads the way at care home
Dulux Decorator Centre has supported the redecoration of the Parklands Care Home in Rawcliffe, Yorkshire helping residents maintain their independence by supplying paints that easily help them identify their rooms.
Parklands is a private care home, providing accommodation to around 30 residents and specialising in dementia and elderly care. The home received a donation of £250 from Dulux Decorator Centre to rejuvenate the home and make it a more comfortable environment for residents.
Colour is imperative to helping those living with dementia retain autonomy by aiding wayfinding. This was taken into consideration when selecting paint colours for redecorating the bedroom doors at Parklands; they needed to be bold to ensure they are easily findable and recognisable. The colours chosen were the bright Pepper Red, Lemon Zest, Passion Flower and Sage Green.
Dulux Decorator Centre in Pontefract donated Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood in these shades to refresh bedroom doors and offer a tough and durable finish. The paint utilises non-yellowing water-based technology meaning that there is less need to touch up the paintwork regularly, resulting in minimal disruption to staff and residents in the long term. The paint is also quick drying, reducing disruption during the application process.
Kimberley Greaves, Home Manager at Parklands Care Home, is delighted with the results. She said: “Not only do the doors look great, we’re also thrilled with the benefit the new colours have provided our residents. It is amazing to see how paint can help us in continuing to deliver top quality care, bringing colour to the home in both a physical and emotional sense.”
