Withernsea Lighthouse uses Dulux Trade Weathershield
Dulux Trade Weathershield All Seasons Masonry paint has been used in a project to provide a long-lasting bright and striking finish to Withernsea Lighthouse, one of the few lighthouses built inland in the UK. The durable exterior coating has been applied to the entire building, in the traditional Trinity House lighthouse colours of Pure Brilliant White and Buckingham Green.
Withernsea Lighthouse, which sits in the middle of Withernsea, and can be seen for several miles, is a local landmark and popular tourist attraction in the East Yorkshire seaside town. So, when the 127ft tall building reached the latest redecoration stage in its ten year exterior maintenance cycle, it was crucial that the products that were used delivered an impressive finish that could withstand tough coastal weather conditions over an extended period.
The manager of Withernsea Lighthouse, Tony Simpson, oversaw the project and selected the decorators to carry out the job. He says: “As it’s such an important building in the local area, it’s very important that the lighthouse looks great with a clean and fresh appearance. D&R Dawson Decorators carried out the exterior maintenance in 1994 and has also painted the interior of the lighthouse twice, using Dulux Trade products each time. The firm’s work has always been very impressive, and the exterior coating it applied had stood the test of time really well. So, when it came to the latest external redecoration, I selected the decorators to carry out the work again.
“Given the high standards of its previous work on the lighthouse, I was happy to take advice from Rob, one of the firm’s partners, on product selection, and had no hesitation in opting for the Weathershield coating when he recommended it.”
Summing up on the finished results, Tony concludes: “I have received so many positive comments about the lighthouse’s fantastic new coating, it has even attracted quite a bit of local press attention. Withernsea Lighthouse is a real focal point in Withernsea, so when it looks great, there is a positive knock-on effect for the entire town.”
