The top trending door colours for spring
According to new research by Ronseal, two in five (39%) UK homeowners would like to change the colour of their front door, yet half (50%) would not feel confident repainting it themself.
In addition, green has been voted as Brits’ most welcoming front door colour by 1 in 5 (20%) and is set to be this year’s most popular choice.
The term ‘green front door’ has received more Google searches in the past month (177K) than any other colour, 143% higher than last month and Pinterest searches for ‘green front door’ up 30% this month.
Ronseal’s DIY expert and Senior Brand Manager, Jimmy Englezos, says the surge reflects a broader trend prioritising a home’s exterior. “We’re seeing a definite increase in demand from homeowners investing in their homes’ kerb appeal, not just general upkeep, but injecting colour and personality too.
“Whether you’re planning to sell in the next few years or intend to make it your forever home, the exterior of a house is responsible for guests’ first impression when they visit, so it deserves as much attention as the inside.
“Something we’re seeing a lot is those with older properties choosing to restore exterior period features to their former glory rather than modernise them. Modern houses can lack these extra details, so it’s really special when your home has them; it’s a part of the property’s history.
“Some restoration projects, like installing sash windows or removing rendering can be costly. A good place to start if you’re on a budget is by digging out your paintbrushes.
“Simply giving the front door, window trims or any columns a fresh lick of paint can make a world of difference in highlighting a property’s character. If your front garden has an iron fence and gate, painting it black can help make the property appear grander and highlight any intricate detailing.”
Green has been voted as the UK’s most welcoming front door colour:

Red 9% 10K +218% Jimmy says: “Green has been extremely popular for interior decorating over the last few years, so it’s no surprise to see the colour have its moment for exterior projects. The colour strikes the perfect balance between modern and traditional, making a home feel fresh and cared for yet cosy and classical.
“Embracing this trending colour doesn’t have to mean replacing your front door entirely, uPVC or exterior wood paints are an affordable and easy-to-use option for giving doors and windows a colourful refresh.”
