Dulux Trade And The Shard
A range of premium coatings from Dulux Trade has been selected to protect and enhance The Shard, Western Europe’s tallest building. Dulux Trade Metalshield, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt, Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood and Dulux Trade Weathershield Smooth Masonry were all applied as part of the shell and core decorations package at London’s newest landmark.
Dulux Trade Metalshield Satin Finish was used on the core metal work located throughout the 72 storey building, including the metal doors and frames. The quick-drying solvent-based formulation was specified for its high performance qualities and because it provides lasting protection against corrosion on metal substrates.
For the walls and internal structural columns, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt was specified in a Pure White shade (RAL 9010), and for the internal woodwork and trim Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood was applied.
The Shard has also been designed to deliver exceptional environmental credentials, with sustainability a clear priority at every stage. During the decoration process, the Environmental Wash System from Dulux Trade was positioned on every fifth floor. The unit provides an environmentally responsible way of washing out painting tools, by converting water-borne paint washings into clear water and solid waste, allowing for easier and safer disposal.
