Saffron Waldon Museum uses Dulux Trade Weathershield

Saffron Waldon Museum uses Dulux Trade Weathershield. Coatings from the Dulux Trade Weathershield range have been used to refresh and protect the exterior trim of Saffron Walden Museum, one of the oldest local museums in the country.

Nestled in North West Essex, the award-winning museum is a cultural hub for Saffron Walden. First opened in 1835, it houses a wide-ranging collection of natural history artifacts from the area collected by generations of local people.

Bill Golbourn, Property Surveyor from Uttlesford District Council, explained: “The local community is proud of the museum as it forms an integral part of Saffron Walden’s history. So while we needed to restore the exterior woodwork, which was in very poor condition, it was crucial to retain the building’s character.”

Both Roalco and Uttlesford District Council worked with Dulux Trade Specification Account Manager, Norman Rigby, to develop a scheme that met the objectives of the project.

Commenting on the project, Robert Potter, Contracts Director of Roalco Ltd, commented: “The museum’s exterior was rapidly deteriorating so we carried out extensive preparation and restoration work to ensure the surface was stable and would look pristine once re-painted. After we had completed the restoration work, we needed a coating which would both protect the wood and keep it looking great for years to come. The outstanding performance of the Dulux Trade Weathershield range provided an ideal solution.”

Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat and Exterior High Gloss in Pure Brilliant White were specified by Norman due to the products’ premium finish and durable properties. The Undercoat is designed to absorb the natural movement of wood, preventing it from cracking, the High Gloss top coat serves to protect the exterior wood, offering up to eight years’ protection.
