PDA diary dates highlighted

Apprentice decorators wanted for national contestThe UK’s largest trade body for painters and decorators has announced a series of events planned for 2021.

The Painting and Decorating Association (PDA), is hoping to see the return of calendar highlights such as the Premier Trophy Awards after the Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to its events in 2020.

Plans are in the pipeline for the competitions, awards and events that the PDA hosts each year, but dates are being kept flexible as Covid-19 restrictions alter.

  • The flagship Premier Trophy Awards ceremony is currently scheduled to take place at Plaisterer’s Hall, London, on September 16.

Applications for the 2022 Premier Trophy Awards will be available soon for projects completed between January 1 2020 and December 31 2021.

  • On June 1, the PDA’s Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year competition will see trainees tackle a six-hour wallpapering challenge in a test of nerve and skill at Doncaster Hub.

The winners of the Paperhanger competition are usually announced at the PDA’s annual networking event.

  • The PDA’s Premier Trophy Award Apprentice of the Year competition is also set to go ahead, after close liaison with the colleges that will host the competition heats.

If Covid-19 restrictions allow, competitors will meet at Accrington and Rossendale College on June 4, Bournemouth and Poole College on June 11 and Coventry College on June 18.
The closing date for both apprentice competitions has been extended to April 23.

  • Provisional bookings have also been made for an Activity Day on September 2 at the Abbey Hotel and Golf Club in Redditch, and for the National Networking Event at the Liverpool Hilton Hotel on November 19 and 20.
