New PDA president
Derek Longcake has been elected National President of the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA).
The PDA, which is celebrating its 121st anniversary this year, is Britain’s largest trade body dedicated to the painting and decorating industry.
Mr Longcake said: “I’m delighted to have been elected as National President of the Painting and Decorating Association, it’s a great honour.
“I’m excited to work closely with the members and move the PDA forward into a modern association. It’s going to be a very busy year, but one I’m looking forward to.”
Owner of D Longcake Decorators, Mr Longcake has been in the decorating trade since the age of 17. After completing a five year City and Guilds apprenticeship with J.D.Tighe as well as studying at North Lindsey Technical College, he went on to establish his own business in 1979 – employing six men, including apprentices.
Mr Longcake added: “This year I want to place particular focus on apprentices:
“We are facing a skills gap of qualified professional painters and decorators in the near future and it’s our responsibility to encourage fresh talent in to the trade.”
